Praying On Site With Insight

Three older men came from Missouri to join us for ten days of prayerwalks in different villages in Senegal. When we arrived in one particular village, we were asked to pray at the school. The elders, chief, school director, teachers, and some of the parents met with us outside of the classrooms under a large tree. Several students had died of meningitis the year before, and so they were asking us to pray for the students and teachers to be protected from this disease. They brought all six classes outside (a total of about 350 students) and surrounded us in a large circle. The five of us kneeled in the center of the circle facing the students and teachers and prayed that God would protect these people from disease and that one day they would know Jesus as their Savior. Meningitis did not attack the school that year.

Pray that all those who witnessed God's answer to these prayers will seek His Son as the answer to problems in their lives, spiritual as well as physical.

Volunteers from a Baptist church in Texas prayerwalked and distributed chronological Bible storying cassettes in the Wolof language to approximately 100 homes in Dakar, Senegal. After being invited into a home, one group of prayerwalkers was surprised as they witnessed a man being greeted by others who dropped by and interacted with him, showing great respect and humility. He seemed almost regal as he reviewed and signed papers that were brought to him, and dealt with matters they could not understand. The volunteers learned that this man was the neighborhood chief! He received the group warmly and was grateful for the tapes and prayers. The Baptist workers view this as God's divine providence as they were already praying about and tentatively planning a public basketball camp in the same neighborhood ten months later. There are no accidents with God. The first outward step in such an event is to seek permission from the local village or neighborhood chief.

Pray that this would lay the groundwork for a basketball camp in the neighborhood for summer 2006 and that God will provide the workers. Pray that God would use this effort and His Word on cassette to change hearts among the Wolof people.
