On The Air Chronological Bible stories in Jula are being broadcast on one of the Christian radio stations in Burkina Faso. When the director of this radio station did a survey about this Bible storying program, many people responded that the stories were their favorite program. The director reported that many of the patients and doctors at the hospital never miss the "storying time." One man even came by the radio station to say that after listening to the Bible stories, he wanted to give his life to Christ. Praise God for these responses. Please pray that the Jula team would know how to best follow-up on the radio programming that your Lottie Moon Dollars are providing. Ask the Father to open the door to getting these stories aired on a non-Christian station as well. Diane Pace - Jula (JOO-luh) Team In looking for ways to do more massive seed sowing, the Songhai Team began using radio programming a couple of years ago. We needed a readily accessible station that transmitted locally to Songhai farmers who carry their little transistors into the fields, to young Songhai boys who hang them on their loaded donkey carts coming into town, to Songhai housewives gossiping in groups to the background noise of the family radio, to Songhai children who dance in the hot sand to the beat of music playing from a battery powered radio, to Songhai merchants and buyers who haggle about quality and bargain out prices over the radio playing loudly in the market area, and to Songhai extended families and friends who gather together at night for entertainment around the only radio in the village. We began with a local station in Niamey and lots of help from those more knowledgeable than ourselves. This year we will be giving cassette packs to radio stations up and down the Niger River from Niamey to Timbuktu. These gift packs will contain programming such as an abbreviated Chronological Bible Storying series, the Easter Story, the Christmas Story, Bridges to Faith, a Special Message to Women, testimonies, and music. Pray that these evangelical cassettes would be well received and played many times over by the radio stations in Songhai towns, and that The Message would be heard and understood by each and every Songhai person this year. Brad and Sally Womble - SONGHAI (SONG-high) Team Radio programs are now being broadcast seven days a week in Western Fulfulde! Praise the Lord for this tool for reaching the Fulani. Pray that as many Fulani hear the Word in their heart language, it would create a hunger in them to know more about the Truth. Pray that the Father would draw them to Himself through the programs. Kris and Shelley Riggs - Fulani (fu-LAH-nee) Team of Western Niger Now that the radio studio for the Maninka people of Guinea is set up and its equipment installed and working, prayer is greatly needed for the person leading this project and his team. The team needs to understand how the audio software works and the technical aspects of developing Christian radio programs that will be aired on the national rural radio in Guinea. Please pray for the radio media team to have the energy, creativity, and wisdom needed to pursue their media projects. Perry Logerstedt - Maninka (MAH-nee-kah) Team During our first year of broadcasting of "God Loves You," we were in a dilemma when the feast of Ramadan rolled around. It fell on one of the days when we broadcast our program, and since we had just started the chronological Bible stories, we didn't want the listeners to miss a session. We were sure that everyone would be too busy to turn on their radios on, so we decided not to air the program that day. To our surprise, the next day the station owner told us that he was inundated with calls asking why they hadn't aired "God Loves You"! He explained to them our reasoning to which they replied: "But God Loves You" is a part of the feast; it's God's Word isn't it? Pray that these radio broadcasts will continue to draw Muslims to God, bringing them to understand and accept God's gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. Patsy Eitelman - Kotokoli (ko-toe-KO-lee) Team Imagine the surprise of the missionary as he opened his door to see in front of him a religious leader who was normally locked behind the invisible veil of another world religion. Never before had the two of them met, never before had they laid eyes on one another, but the man had traveled many miles to this house. Here was a leader face to face with a servant of God. The meeting was no accident; the religious leader had sought it. For over a decade he had been hearing the truths of the gospel transmitted via airwaves. Now he wanted to share his thoughts about the stories that entered beyond the wall. He lived in a city dedicated to the world religion and where no known Christians are allowed to live. After years of listening to the radio programs with other teachers in this 'holy city,' he was ready to express personal faith in Jesus. He prayed that day for salvation, and testified that there were others 'like him' in his city. When asked where he would go now, he replied that he would return to his assignment of training children in the faith, but now he would teach them about Jesus. Praise God for His work in this religious leader's life, and pray that others who listen to the radio programs will also come to faith in Christ. An IMB Worker |
