Responding in Obedience
An Engaging Church* Moves Forward

One year ago, the Rocky Creek Baptist Church in Greenville, South Carolina committed to be an Engaging Church* and share the gospel among the Sereer-Palor people in Senegal. During their first visit, the oldest son in a Sereer-Palor compound told the Rocky Creek team, "Our father went to Quranic school and sent all of his sons to Quranic school. Islam is all we know and who we are. As for the children, there is opportunity to teach them something new." Like so many of the unengaged people groups in West Africa, the Sereer-Palor are held by the stronghold of Islam. Ask God to release the Sereer-Palor from this stronghold and praise Him for the opportunity to teach the future generation in this village. Pray that the seeds sown in these young hearts will come to fruition.

When the Rocky Creek Church team returned to visit their Sereer-Palor family this fall, they witnessed some spiritual fruit from previous visits. an American woman volunteer washes a West African woman's feetIt was five days of supernatural events, heartbreaking realizations, joyous celebration, and divine appointments. The ladies on the team displayed the love of Christ as they washed the feet of those who spend hours working in the fields; massaged lotion into the weary legs of those who stoop tirelessly washing clothes and cooking meals; and prayed for those who labor vigorously trying to gain God's favor. We spent countless hours under shade trees, continuing to share from God's Word and sow seeds among a vast number of people who listened intently to each detail of the stories. Join us in praying that these villagers will recognize that what they have heard is Truth and put their trust in Jesus Christ.

Feeling the heat and humidity in a 10' x10' cinderblock room, the team shared meals with the lone believer of the village, discipled her, encouraged her, and prayed with her. Our sister, "Wilma," has shared her newfound faith with her husband, but no one else. Her husband responded only with silence. Perhaps this is good news, because a female believer may be divorced by her husband, beaten, or ostracized. Ask God to give "Wilma" spiritual strength and boldness to witness to others in her village. Pray that "Wilma's" husband will accept Christ and bring Godly leadership to his family.

Through the obedience of the Rocky Creek Baptist Church to God's call, the Word is going forth among the Sereer-Palor people. As you faithfully intercede for the Sereer-Palor, ask the Lord of the harvest to call out laborers to work among other people groups in West Africa who have no Christian witness.
