The Light Has Returned

One missionary couple recently returned from their stateside assignment to their field of service in Senegal, and to the people they are reaching for Christ, the Wolof. Their reunions with friends have been sweet, and the villages where they previously shared chronological Bible stories have been extremely receptive to their return. One village received them with cries of, "The light has returned! The light has returned!"

This couple reported, "We have gotten somewhat settled back into the West African lifestyle. I went to the post office on market day when everyone comes from the nearby villages to sell or buy. In the middle of a busy intersection, a man was dressed in a military uniform directing traffic. The traffic waswomen's Bible storying group in front of a hut not cars, but donkey and horse carts. The man that was directing is not employed by anybody. He just likes dressing up in a military uniform, blowing his whistle directing traffic. He does a good job. It's good to be back!

The people in the village where we completed chronological Bible storying just before we went to the USA showed great enthusiasm when we returned. However, the chief is now bedridden and unable to speak or walk. He has also lost a lot of weight. We can find comfort in knowing that he has heard the Word. Only the Lord knows the decision he has made in his heart. When we visited him, every time he looked at one of us, he would begin to cry. There was something different about him when we looked into his eyes. We just pray that as he lies in that state, he has made peace with the Lord Almighty.

Since we have been back, my wife has been able to share Bible stories with a young lady. During one of their story times, the young woman began to cry. When asked what was wrong, she said, 'Nothing, sometimes my eyes just cry'. It was not planned this way, but God is using it..."

Praise God that these villagers are beginning to understand significant spiritual truths. Intercede for these Baptist representatives as they plan follow-up strategies with these villagers and seek to begin new storying groups in a nearby village. Pray that those who hear God's Word will come to know the true Light of the World whom they have recognized indwelling in His followers. Then the Light will never go away again.
