Living in Darkness

"I have come as a light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me would not remain in darkness." (John 12:46, HCSB)

In the early morning before I rise, I hear the mournful cry. In the afternoon and in the evening, I hear the wailing, over and over again, day in and day out.  These people who have captured my heart have no hope; they are crying out, and yet to whom do they cry? The God to whom they call does not hear because they have not come under the blood of Christ.  The God they desire to please is so distant from them A mosque in Nigerthat they cannot bridge the gap. They do what they have always been told, but they know that it is not enough, and yet most of them refuse to come under the Cross of grace.  And how many of them have not even heard?

Then there is the other side of the darkness - the side that calls upon the spirits of darkness to come and help them. This dark side compels its followers to beat a drum, dance until exhausted, and kill a chicken, a goat or a dog to call the spirits to come and talk with them.  But these spirits that they seek to please are also the ones they fear more than anything. It is these spirits that they want to talk with that cause them to sleep with a lamp burning at night, fearful of the dark. The spirits that they make alliances with cause them to lie on their bed, sick nearly to the point of death. Still, they refuse to come under the Cross of grace that would be their ultimate shield of protection, their sure hope of what they most long for.  WHY? May the LORD open the hearts of many who are seeking.  May the LORD call out laborers to the harvest field.

Pray that God will call out older men and women to come and share the Gospel with the Zerma who often say that Jesus is only good for children. Ask God to give spiritual strength and boldness to those whom He has already drawn to Himself so that they will be effective Christian witnesses among their own people.
