Committed To Pray

Our Wémé team met as usual on Tuesday for prayer. Everyone arrived muddy and wet, having slipped and slid in rain from their different villages all the way to Adjohoun church. Alex, Marcellin and Ida, Augustin, Henri, and Michel came chugging in one by one on their mud-caked motorbikes. Papa Marcellin and Emile walked in with muddied shoes. Liselotte couldn't come because the road from Bonou was just too dangerous for her and their two boys to ride with Alex on the motorbike. The main dirt road running north and south in the valley turns into a pot-holed, mud-slick terror when it's raining. Augustin became sick and had a flat tire on his way. Henri wasn't feeling well either, and his bike broke down completely. African men gather under a thatched roof and prayWhen he joined Michel on his bike, Michel's bike broke down twice before they arrived, discouraged and sopping, an hour late. But they all came. And we all left a few hours later, rejoicing in Jesus and renewed in the power of united prayer. We wouldn't miss these prayer times every two weeks for anything! Meditating on God's word and praying together, sharing joys and problems, and encouraging one another, praying for each other's personal needs and ministry, for the churches, and the lost.

Join us in praying for our Wémé team, whose feet are splattered with mud, but whose hearts burn with zeal for their Wémé people to know the Good News of the Savior!

There are millions of people in West Africa who stand at the crossroads between life and death, hoping that their last prayer or their last alms giving will be enough to tip the balance in their favor toward eternal life in heaven. They are deceived. Ask the Lord to place in their minds the desire for the true path, the Way through Christ Jesus. "This is what the LORD says: 'Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls...?'" (Jeremiah 6:16).

The International Mission Board will have a special focus on West Africa during 2006. Please unite your hearts with ours in prayer; make a commitment today to pray regularly and faithfully for the lost peoples of West Africa throughout this year.
