This past month I kept having accidents while working on our peanut farm in Senegal. I immediately knew that the spirits must be angry with me, so I took a chicken to the "marabout" (Islamic spiritual leader). In exchange, he gave me an amulet with Arabic words inscribed on it from the Quran. The marabout told me to wear the amulet around my neck at all times. I have not taken it off since that day, and I know that it will help protect me from the evil spirits.
